| Come Party With Me: Baby Shower - The Look
While a baby shower is generally held to celebrate the upcoming birth of an unborn child, they are also thrown to shower gifts on the baby. I consider a baby shower to be the child's "first" birthday. Much like a wedding, guests are asked to bring essential gifts that will aid the parents in their new life with baby. Diapers, bottles, blankets, clothes, and toys can all be incorporated into the look of the baby shower. The theme colors, pale pink and sky blue in my case, should be used as inspiration for the party decor. Although I included the colors in the invitations, I did not work them into the food or drinks, so I definitely want to use lots of pretty pinks and soft blues in the decorations. To see how I'll do it, and to get some cute baby shower ideas, The baby shower I am planning for Naomi Watts is a sit down luncheon, so tables and chairs are a must.
Disney offers gowns for Princess brides
Walt Disney is looking to grab a bigger piece of the wedding cake, and feed its burgeoning Princess business, with a new line of character-inspired bridal gowns aimed at women who want to look and feel like Cinderella at the ball on their big day. The 34 gowns by designer Kirstie Kelly were inspired by princesses from Disney films like Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast and mark the latest effort by Disney to steer its weddings business toward higher-end nuptials. Disney instructed Kelly to base her gown designs on those characters in a bet that the popularity of the Disney Princess line of products for girls, which racked up $US3.4 billion ($A4.1 billion) in worldwide sales last year, would carry over to brides who grew up with Disney. "We do 'being a princess' better than anyone," Korri McFann, marketing manager for Disney Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons, said in an interview.
Here comes the bride, with eyes on an antique wedding knot
This spring, wedding season has contemporary couples tying the knot with history in mind. Many weddings, from the first steps down the aisle to the last dance at the reception, show us that everything old is new again! Antique wedding accessories have taken center stage at today's wedding showers, ceremonies and receptions. Old-time objects highlight the past while making today's brides blush with antique style. Remembering the Renaissance when important letters were sealed for security, today's brides use white wax and wax seals for correspondence, ranging from love letters to wedding invitations. Late 19th-century wax seals may turn up in grandma's attic or at your local flea market with price tags ranging from $50 to $500. Old, favorite wedding traditions are reinvented.
Turning your hobby into a home-based business
In the front room of Sheila Dieterich's home in southeast Calgary is a photo of the preschool class she attended in her native Vancouver. Ms. Dieterich is the last child on the left in the top row, but she's hard to miss -- she's the only one wearing a wedding dress. "I wouldn't let it go," says Ms. Dieterich, 36. "I always liked wearing a bride's dress." Ms. Dieterich has made that early fascination pay off handsomely. From her home, she operates Sweet Beginnings, a franchised wedding consultation and décor business. She was recently named one of 75 franchisees of the year by the International Franchise Association, one of two Canadian winners. The other winners, Chris and Nicola Feist of ServiceMaster Clean -- a cleaning and restoration business -- are also located in Calgary.
